Rishikesh and Yoga
Known as the Gateway to the Himalayas, Rishikesh is considered to be one of the holy sites for Hindus in India. The history of Risikesh is mythical, and it is believed that a saint named Raibhya Rishi performed strict penance on the banks of the river Ganges. To reward him, Lord Vishnu conjured up in the form of Hrishikesh, thus giving the region the name Rishikesh.
Rishikesh is the entry point for the four sacred Hindu pilgrimages namely, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. A strictly vegetarian town, even serving and consuming alcohol in this sacred land is prohibited.
